The menagerie of creatures in the Amazing Animals series continues to grow with these attractive new titles. Making fantastic use of large color photographs, each volume offers elementary-grade readers basic information on the titular animal, highlighting its size, physical features, diet, habitat, life cycle, and a relevant pourquoi tale. Short paragraphs printed in large text appear on crisp white pages, with bolded vocabulary simply defined along the bottom of the page, which will help youngsters read with confidence. The text is comprised of a smattering of statistics and general facts, which may prompt readers to seek out more detailed information happily, an appended list of age-appropriate resources will help them do just that. Although the clever, bandit-masked mammal starring in Raccoons famously raids neighborhood trash cans, it also makes sure to clean its food before eating. The lack of a map showing each animals' range is a slight drawback, but these books remain reader-friendly introductions for new researchers.--Smith, Julia Copyright 2017 Booklist
