Liv is eager to spend a week with her five-year-old twins at her father-in-law Baz's cottage on the Cornwall coast but fretful that an unforeseen glitch is keeping her husband, Matt, at home running their trendy restaurant. Fortunately, Baz has a welcoming if rather eclectic group of friends who will provide no end of parties. Annabel and Miles are hosts extraordinaire due to Annabel’s long-standing and rather embarrassing crush on Baz, of which Miles is only too aware. Not that he cares, because he is harboring quite an attachment to El, Baz’s oldest friend. And then there’s Janet and Dave, who are hosting their goddaughter, Sofia, who is about Liv’s age and tending a broken heart, for which Baz might just be the cure. Amid the tea and crumpets, there’s an undercurrent of tension as an old friend of Liv’s tries to settle a lifelong score with a wicked scheme involving both Matt and Baz. For readers who like romantic and family-relationship tales on the frothy side, Willett’s latest is quite a dish.
