Gr 3-5-A detailed look at the contents of our solar system and the different types of galaxies. The books include photos, artists' concept illustrations, and infographics to support the narrative. Several of the titles include a time line showing the various missions that have collected information so far, and they all discuss future exploration plans. The text is informative and easy to understand, providing interesting facts about what makes life possible on Earth or about the probes and telescopes used to study other planets. Various graphs compare details like the temperatures on the planets or how many light-years across neighboring galaxies are. Explore Earth's local group of galaxies with this title in the Deep Space Discovery series (6 titles). The book alternates between general information about galaxies and specific details about the Milky Way and several other nearby galaxies. Although the information is basic, the galactic scale is mesmerizing. The images, many from NASA telescopes, help inspire readers with an even greater sense of wonder. The material, though presented simply, is dramatic enough to interest readers of a variety of ages, including adults. The publisher suggests that it is for grades four through six, but the length and simplicity of the text suggest that it is at least as well suited to proficient readers in younger grades. Readers with any interest at all in space will find much enjoyment and much to learn here.--Miriam Aronin Copyright 2018 Booklist
