This standalone followup to The Gordian Protocol (2019) starts with the implosive destruction of two timeline universes that utilized transdimensional technology. While the newly established Gordian Division of SysGov investigates, all time travel is suspended until further notice. But two scientists steal a time travel vehicle (TTV) and, in a storyline that is perhaps inadvertently topical, make amends for their thievery by preventing the Black Plague of Justinian in the sixth century. In doing so, they save millions of people and create an alternate civilization with a new timeline universe that eventually develops its own time-travel technology. This tech includes temporal replication, which is essentially creating a container of exotic material to power TTVs and then waiting, traveling back a few years, and taking it back to the present (rinse and repeat). Unfortunately, this process creates a temporal resonance that threatens both timelines. Weber is a bestselling master of three-dimensional space fleet battles, and with Holo, he adds a whole new dimension and tops the previous book with higher stakes, bigger explosions, and glorious heroics.
