Friends Policy
Recognizing the invaluable assistance Friends groups provide in obtaining better library services and facilities for our citizens, the Board constantly strives to support the activities of Friends groups in working toward our shared goal of better library service. The following items are intended to provide clarification as to the roles of the Board of Trustees of the Mecklenburg County Public Library and Friends of the library groups and to assist both bodies in their attempt to provide quality library service to the public
1. The Board of Trustees of the Mecklenburg County Public Library is the only legally recognized body for management and control of the library. The Board welcomes suggestions from Friends groups and interested citizens regarding policy matters, but the Board is the only body possessing authority for the implementation of policies.
2. Friends groups are organizations independent of the corporate structure of the Mecklenburg County Public Library. This independence allows the Friends to view the library from a different perspective than that of the Board or library employees and allows them to make suggestions and aid the library in ways that the Board is unable to do.
3. Both bodies should strive to maintain good communications with each other in order to effectively improve library service to the public.
