Children's Summer Reading Program
Monday, June 9 - Saturday, August 9, 2014
Fizz, Boom, Read! for ages 0 to 5th Grade
The library will kick-off its summer reading program on June 9th. The theme this year is all about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (or STEAM).
The library's Fizz, Boom, Read! summer reading is for all kids from newborn to rising 5th Graders! All you need to do to sign-up is visit anyone of our branches on or after June 9th and pickup your "Fizz, Boom, READ!" Summer Reading packet.
If you meet the goal of reading 25 hours this summer then you will receive a South Carolina Summer Reading medal and a yard sign stating you are a reading champion (while supplies last). If you attend five summer reading programs at our library then you get to pick a prize out of the prize box.
You can read anything you like: books, magazines or audiobooks on any subject. You can read books from home; they don't have to be library books. Pre-readers earn prizes by having caretakers do literacy activities together. If pre-readers meet their goal of doing 27 literacy activities then he or she will receive a prize. Last day to turn in logs and receive prizes is Saturday, August 9th.
We will be offering a variety of exciting programs all summer long so make sure to drop-in frequently! A full calendar of events will be available online soon.
We've got fabulous programs planned just for teens this year, such as teen cosplay and video game workshops, Doctor Who Extravaganza, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Minute-to-Win-it challenges, chess and manga clubs, and lots more! When you register you will receive a full calendar of events.
Due to unforeseen circumstances there has been a schedule change for the July 17th Summer Reading performances of “Our Musical Journey”. The Salem performance has been canceled and the time at Walhalla has been moved to 2 PM and at Westminster to 4 PM. We are sorry for the inconvenience and hope you are still able to attend one of the performances.
