Items of interest to genealogists and Local History researchers include local cemetery indexes, marriage information, Piqua City Directories and high school yearbooks. 

Our resources on microfilm include Piqua newspapers, (1820-2014); Complete Ohio census records from 1820 to 1880, and area county census records for 1900-1930, as well as some local municipal records, county vital records, and local church records.  Copies of The Piqua Daily Call from April 2006 to the present are available in the library archives.

The Vertical Files are the Library's clipping files which now number over 6600 individual folders.  The contents range from obituaries to newspaper articles to pamphlets and flyers. 

Small Collections contain documents and artifacts which fit into a single file folder.  These range from photographs, newspapers, letters, diaries, deeds and land grants to business cards, class reunion materials and materials from various clubs and organizations.  There are currently in excess of 7500 files in our Small Collections.

Manuscript Collections consist of documents that fill one or multiple boxes.  These include photograph collections, club and organizational records, business records, family records and scrapbooks.  There are currently over 250 Manuscript Collections.

The Local History Department's books are included in the Library's online card catalog with the designation LH/ not for loan.  The Department's materials are not available for check out or interlibrary loans.  Some genealogy instruction books and source books are available in general circulation and are found just outside the entrance to the department.
