We are now able to offer Wi-Fi hotspots! Users (ages 18 and older) with a Portland Public Library card that has been active for at least 30 days may borrow a FREE hotspot. The loan period for hotspots is 7 days, and if there is no wait list, they may be renewed for an additional 7-day period. Hotspot holds and check-outs are limited to one per household. Children's Programs   

 

LAPSIT – FOR KIDS UNDER 3 (Friday mornings at 10:30)
These are programs for infants and toddlers under age 3 and their caregivers. The program lasts around 30 minutes. It includes books/stories, lots of songs, nursery rhymes and fingerplays (older siblings are allowed to attend/participate when necessary).

 

March 1: The Color Green!: Stories, rhymes, & fingerplays, plus a sticker page at the end.

March 8: Frogs: The Best Green Animal!: Songs, rhymes, and stickers.

March 15: St. Paddy's Day: Leprechauns, shamrocks, etc. We’ll have songs, rhymes, & stickers.

March 22: Green Food: How many can you think of?  Nursery rhymes, songs, and fun!

March 29: Garden Plants of All Kinds: Spend time singing, enjoying stories & meeting new friends.

 

Wednesday Mornings at 10:30am (for kids ages 3-5)

 

March 6: Stories About Green Animals - (Think frogs) Plus songs, music, and a craft.

March 13: In Honor of St. Patrick's Day - Stories, songs, & crafts about this holiday.

March 20: Green Foods - Beans, Pickles, & What Else? - Music, movement and a coloring page.

March 27: Plant a Green Garden - Garden Stories: - Coloring page & take home your own plant and watch it grow!

 

Wednesday Afternoons at 3:30pm (for Kindergarten & older)

 

March 6Books with Green in the Title - One to hear, many displayed to possibly check out, and followed by a game of 4 Corners.  Stay a little longer and celebrate Roger’s birthday (the reading dog).  Feel free to bring him a birthday card.  (ALLERGY alert – cupcakes will be served).

March 13Special Guest Reader with St. Paddy's Day Theme! Followed with a craft project.

March 20Living Green - Easy Ways to Make a DifferenceFollowed by a game!

Teen Programs for middle & high schoolers (Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:00 pm)

March 7:  Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe Tournament - Ultimate tic-tac-toe is variation and more strategic version of Tic Tac Toe which allows for a more dynamic and strategic gameplay for participants. This is designed for 2 main players (which can be individuals or groups). There will also be some rounds of Tic-Tac-Go!

March 14: Fellowship of the Teens Symposium Instructional communiqué chitchat gabfest to accomplish concurrence.

March 21Galaxy Bottles -  A galaxy is a gravitationally bound system of stars, stellar remnants, interstellar gas and dust, and dark matter. A nebula (Latin for “cloud”) is an interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen, helium, and other ionized gases. Originally, nebula was a name for any diffuse astronomical object, including galaxies beyond the Milky Way. We will use a variety of ingredients to create our own galaxy or nebula in a jar!

March 28Game Day - BINGO - BINGO! - a game in which numbered balls are drawn at random and players cover the corresponding numbers on their cards. "Low value" prizes like individually wrapped pieces of candy may be awarded to our winners.

Dungeons & Dragons: Friday, March 15th 3:30-5:00 - Join us for our D&D group! Both teens and college ages are welcome. Adult staff members will be leading and monitoring the program.

 

Adult Programs

 

Bingo: Every Tuesday at 1:00 PM

Join in on the fun of friendly competition as Ms. Vicki calls out the numbers, and the race is on to yell out "BINGO." Prizes awarded to winners.  

 

Veteran's Representative: Wednesday, March 6th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in a study room 

A rep from the Sumner County Veteran's Service Office will be available to help any vetran or veteran's spouse with questions or filling out forms.  No appointment necessary.  First come, first serve basis.

 

Genealogy Club: March 2nd at 10am

Have you ever transcribed historical documents? We will look at the U. S. Archives "Citizen Archivist Missions" section and find out how to do transcription projects. Some people really like to do this and it is very helpful to get data on line. Everyone is welcome to come.

 

Crafts!: Tuesday, March 19th at 2:30 PM

Join us to make a cute craft!  All supplies provided. Sign up is required.
