We are now able to offer Wi-Fi hotspots! Users (ages 18 and older) with a Portland Public Library card that has been active for at least 30 days may borrow a FREE hotspot. The loan period for hotspots is 7 days, and if there is no wait list, they may be renewed for an additional 7-day period. Hotspot holds and check-outs are limited to one per household. Sign up to participate in our 2023 Summer Reading Program: All Together Now: Bee Kind! Track your reading with your SR reading log to earn prizes, including chances for the end grand prize drawing. Also join us for fun events all summer long!

Children's Programs
LAPSIT – FOR KIDS UNDER 3 (Friday mornings at 10:30)
These are programs for infants and toddlers under age 3 and their caregivers. The program lasts around 30 minutes. It includes books/stories, lots of songs, nursery rhymes and fingerplays (older siblings are allowed to attend/participate when necessary). Our weekly program revolves loosely around a theme.

Wednesday, June 7 (10:30 AM) – "Bee" safe! We're kicking off the summer reading programming with a visit from the Portland Police Department. They work to keep all of us in the community safe.
Wednesday, June 14 (10:30 AM) – All together now! How the post office can help us mail a hug. Meet a postal worker, hear a story. Send a hug or message to someone you know or love. Plus some songs and movement activities. Come to the program with someone in mind who doesn't live close that you would like to send a letter to.
Wednesday, June 21 (10:30 AM) – Let's be active! Join Ms. Linda and Ms. Marla today and play some games! We will definitely play chairless musical chairs, have a relay type race, and we may try Duck, Duck, Goose too.
Wednesday, June 28 (10:30 AM) – See Nashville Ballet event under family events

Wednesday, June 7 (3:30 PM) – Come watch the Science Guy (or gal) show you amazing things, as you learn a little about science concepts. Some audience members will get to assist in the experiments.
Tuesday, June 14 (3:30 PM) – It's all about money today. Meet a local banker, who will share some fun facts with you. Then check out all the books we have about money – making it, spending it, maybe even books where someone stole it!
Wednesday, June 21 (3:30 PM) – Join us for some wet, dirty, bubbly fun with Highland Volunteer Fire Department. This is an outdoor event in the grassy area near the basketball court. PARENTS NEED TO SIGN A WAIVER FORM BEFORE KIDS CAN JOIN THE FUN. You may want to bring a towel and a change of clothes.
Wednesday, June 28 (3:30 PM) – Michele Harbin will tell us all about keeping bees. And, hey, what's the deal with bee pollen? Come hear the "buzz"! We sure hope you will "BEE" here for the fun.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS – STEAM BOOK CLUB (MUST HAVE COMPLETED KINDERGARTEN)
Fridays, June 30 to July 28 (4:00 PM) – Each week 2 chapters of the book will be read, followed by 2 projects for everyone to do together. There will also be information and additional projects to do at home. Registration is required and we request you only sign up if you feel you can attend most sessions (if not all 5 sessions).
JUNIOR BINGO (MUST HAVE COMPLETED FIRST GRADE)
Tuesdays in June and July (1:00 PM) – Junior Bingo is at the same time as Adult Bingo. Due to limited seating, only the first 18 who show up can participate.
FAMILY EVENTS (ALL AGES)
Wednesday, June 28 (10:30 AM) – Today's program is presented by The Nashville Ballet Company. It is for all ages today! Younger kids will enjoy the story and dance, and older (elementary aged kids) will better understand the underlying message of the story. This is an event not to be missed.

Thursday, June 8 from 4:00-5:00 Science Guys - Mr. Bond’s Science Guys’ mission is to prove that science is fun, cool and easy! Science demonstrations and educational entertainment with hands-on science programs for middle and high school age students.
Friday, June 15 from 3:30-4:00 Money and Me!! - The Farmer’s Bank will be here to discuss how to save and care for the money we earn.
Thursday, June 15 from 4:00-5:00 Paper Airplane Competition - May 26 was National Paper Airplane Day! Even though that date has passed, we are going to have our own for you to fly your paper airplane! We will find an area clear of people and other hazards, gently toss our airplanes to see how far did they fly. Materials will be provided for you to build your plane in the Community Room, and then (weather permitting) we will go outside for the competition.
Thursday, June 22 from 4:00-5:00 Rock Painting and Spreading a Little Kindness - A painted rock, sometimes called a kindness stone or rock, is simply a rock that someone has taken and decorated with an inspirational message. We are going to BEE KIND to our community (or other communities) by creating and placing kindness rocks.
Thursday, June 29 from 4:00-5:00 Game Day - Here we go! The challenge is on! Come by, hang out, and enjoy some fun and laughs with friends!

Beekeeping in Middle Tennessee – Tuesday, June 6 at 2:30 PM
Join us for an educational program about beekeeping in Middle Tennessee presented by special guest Michelle Harbin. Participants will learn the importance of honey bees to our ecosystems, how to attract and protect them, the benefits of honey & bee pollen as supplements, and other fun facts about this important species. We will also sample local honey & bee pollen. Plus, drawing for door prizes! (Ages 16 & up are welcome to attend.)
Pollinator Program presented by the UT Extension Office – Tuesday, June 13 at 2:30
Let's learn about pollinators & plants that attract them! We'll focus on native bees, butterflies, and a few other important pollinators. There will be examples of habitats for native bees & butterflies, and information on Monarch Waystation certification. Plus, door prizes are drawn at the end of the presentation! (Ages 12 & up are welcome to attend.)
