It's tough to assign a grade level to books in Smith's classic series, which is popular among graphic-novel fans both young and old. This volume, the sixth of the newly colored books, needs to be read in sequence, but one look at the art and a quick dip into the story (in which Thorn saves Fone Bone, who later returns the favor) will convince readers to search out earlier volumes. Swordplay, magic, drama, and fully developed characters plus slick paper and gorgeous color-it's a remastered package that's truly hard to beat. Zvirin, Stephanie.
