  Fashion realistic roses with pre-cut colored papers that we will provide.   Every rose may have its thorns, but that will be no problem in our class!  Hot glue guns will be provided for the assembly process, so remember this is an adults only program.  The new library Headquarters building is located on Route 519 South behind the Village Square Strip Mall on the newly named Shotwell Drive.

Exploration Station

On July 9 at10:30, the Warren County Library, located at 2Shotwell Drive, Belvidere, will hold Exploration Station, a program for toddlers and preschoolers.  Children with an adult caregiver are invited to explore the concepts of letters, numbers, shape, colors, and opposites in a variety of hands-on activities that will include both games to play at the program and projects you will make to take home.  Please sign up at www.warrenlib.org beginning July 1.

Children’s Gardening Program

On July 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon, Wise Owl Workshops will present “Go Native in the Garden” at the Warren County Library located at 2 Shotwell Drive, Belvidere.  Children ages 6 – 12 will learn how to grow native plants from seed and be able to examine, feel, and smell them as they explore how native plants can be used.  Get up close with insects and learn about their life cycles and how they are bound up with native plants.  Sign-up is required.  Sign up online at www.warrenlib.org beginning July 1.

Junior Archaeologist / Paleontologist Club

 On July 10 at 7:00 p.m. the Warren County Library, located at 2 Shotwell Drive, Belvidere, will hold the first in a series of programs called Junior Archaeologist / Paleontologist Club for children age 8 and up.  Dig into the past like real archaeologists and paleontologists with a series of hands-on activities.  This week, learn about what archaeologists and paleontologists do and take a hand at assembling some artifacts on your own.  Sign-up is required.  Sign up online at www.warrenlib.org beginning July 1.

Duct Tape Beach Bag Craft for Teens 

 School’s out, and it’s time to go down the shore! Join us on Wednesday, June 26 at 3:00pm to make a waterproof beach bag out of colorful duct tape. Dig into Reading

 Readers of all ages will explore all things underground this summer as the Warren County Library presents “Dig into Reading.”  The 2013 summer reading program includes something for everyone infant through adult.  In addition to reading books to earn prizes, children are encouraged to attend other activities planned at the library.  These will include a wide variety programs both fun and educational, workshops, crafts, storytime, and much more!  All programs are free of charge.   
There will also be contests and prize drawings for all ages.  Registration begins June 24.  The program continues through August 24.  The complete list of programs will be available on the library web site, www.warrenlib.org.  We hope to see you at the library on June 24 and all summer long!  The summer reading program is sponsored by the Warren County Library and is supported by the Friends of the Warren County Library.

May 13-19

Children’s Book Week, an annual event celebrating the joy of reading, will be held the week of May 13th.  Sponsored by the Children’s Book Council, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running literacy initiative in the country, having been first observed in 1919 to promote quality in children’s books.  Across the country, libraries, schools and bookstores will hold events in celebration of reading.  The Warren County Library Headquarters, located at 189 County Route 519, Belvidere, will be joining in the celebration.  Stop in anytime this week for the following:

·         Pick up a story starter from one of several children’s authors and finish the story yourself!   

·         See if you can solve puzzles based on children’s books!

·         Pick out a book, either something new or an old favorite, from one of our children’s book displays

Solos Acoustic Guitar Concert at Warren County Library

Peter Biedermann will appear at the new Warren County Library Headquarters in White Township (Route 519 South) on May 9th at 6:30 pm.  Peter Biedermann is an instrumental guitarist from New Jersey who has been composing and performing for over 35 years.   While his music covers a number of genres in various disciplines, the sounds you will hear will be entirely original. The music will be performed on a variety of 6, 8 & 12 string guitars in unique tunings combined with ambient electronics.

Introduction to the Performing Arts

Warren County Library Headquarters has a call out to all actors…or those who have an interest in learning the finer points of Acting, Singing, Stage Combat and Stage Make-up. Centenary College Performing Arts will teach a free 4 part workshop at the “new” Warren County Library Headquarters located at 189 County Rt. 519 South in Belvidere.  Introduction to the Performing Arts workshop dates are:  May 4th Singing, May 11th Acting, May 18th Stage Combat, and June 1st Stage Make-up and Masks.  All workshops will be held on Saturdays from 10:00 to 11:30.  You may sign up for one class or all 4!  Funding for this series of workshops is made possible in part by The Warren County Cultural & Heritage Commission. Here is how it works

1) Read one or more books from The Great Scavenger Hunt Contest book list available at the library and the library website.

2) Find the trivia challenge for your chosen book(s) at www.kaycassidy.com/hunt and print out the challenges you want to complete. Answer the questions for each challenge.

3) Turn in your completed trivia challenge(s) at the library circulation desk and choose a small prize from the prize bucket.

4) For each trivia challenge you complete and turn in, you will receive a ticket for a drawing for the Teen Week Prize pack.

Drawing for Teen Read Week will take place on Monday October 22.

Read to a dog

On April 9th, from 7 - 8:00 p.m., Warren County Library Headquarters presents our program Read to a Dog hosted by Jaime Dritt and Barley Barker. Children can practice their reading skills by reading aloud to Barley Barker, a trained therapy dog who'll listen quietly and create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.  Research shows that reading aloud to animals helps children to increase their passion for reading while improving their reading skills and gaining self-confidence.   Each child can read aloud to Barley for approximately 10 minutes.  Age Restrictions:   school-age children who are reading. Once Upon A Peep

On Wednesday, April 4, at 6:30 PM, Warren County Library Headquarters invites you to Once Upon a Peep. Depict a scene from your favorite book with Marshmallow Peeps! Let them bring your favorite book to life in a diorama! Please bring a shoe box or container no more than 12 inches deep, 18 inches wide and 18 inches high. Any additional materials or props such as doll house furniture, that will make your literary scene complete are welcome! Finished products will be judged in 3 groups: Juvenile (Children up to 12), Teen (ages 13-19), and Adult (ages 20+). This event is open to all ages. Children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited, so please register.

Hunger Games Program 

On Tuesday, March 20, 6:30-8:00 p.m., before the much-anticipated movie opens in theaters, come to the Warren County Library Headquarters to take part in our Hunger Games Program! This program is open to 7th graders and up. Test your archery skills at WII Archery, and make a Mockingjay craft, or come dressed as a Hunger Games tribute for the costume competition!  Hungry?  We’ll serve up some refreshments ala Greasy Sae and Peeta’s Bakery.   Funding for this program is made possible by the Friends of the Warren County Library. Pajama Storytime

On Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00, Warren County Library Headquarters presents Pajama Storytime. During the month of February, the Warren County Library is partnering with the Pajama Program Contribution Drive to collect new pajamas and books for needy children, from the ages of infancy through teens. The items will then be distributed through various nonprofit agencies in Warren County.  Pajama Storytime is a half-hour program featuring a selection of stories suitable for the whole family!    If you are planning to attend, please consider bringing a pair of pajamas and/or a book to donate to the Pajama Program.

Warren County Library Offers New Resource for Local History and Genealogy Research:

March 8, 2011 - The Warren County Library now offers a collection of photographs related to historic people and places of Warren County. The collection was created with the donation of the photographs of local author Frank T. Dale.
