Online Database and Internet Resources 

  • How do I access the libraries Online Databases?

              Directions for accessing Online Database from the Pillar College

Go to https://portal.pillar.edu. (First-time users must log in with their Pillar email  and            password)  and then click on Pillar Library.

Database search tips:

1.    Then choose a database from the list, for example, Academic Search Premier. To log in, click on the blue link under the Database (you don’t need a username or password). Then, type your keywords in the search box. Scroll down, check the full text, peer review, and customize the rest of your search before clicking search.
2.    When you find an article of interest, click on the link to open it. (Some articles may also have a PDF Full Text or HTML Full-text link.)
3.    Open the article and use Tools to the right of the page to send to your email, add to Google Drive, or save to your device. Use the cite link to select and add the appropriate citation (APA or MLA) for that article to your email. You may also copy and paste the citation into a Word document and save it on your desktop.
4.    If you want to select any other Database from the list, just click on the blue link to automatically be signed-in

 

5.     Library Catalog
If you are looking for a physical book, go to Search the Catalog. (It is located at the beginning of the Pillar Library page), then write the title of the book, and click on search.

  • What is the purpose of my completing the VALE (Virtual Academic Library Environment) form?

Pillar College students are eligible to gain reciprocal borrowing privileges at undergraduate college and university libraries in New Jersey by going directly to the participating school. Using your Pillar College student ID and a properly filled out VALE Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement Application form will verify your eligibility. Students who are in good standing at their home campus libraries qualify for this onsite borrowing option. Information resources not in the possession of the library can also be obtained through interlibrary loan.

Pillar College is pleased to offer Career Services advising to our student body.  Career Services provides the resources you need for assessing your strengths, identifying interest, developing career plans, creating a resume, finding internships, developing graduate school plans and finding full time employment.

The Pillar College library online databases provide a resource for researching a wide range of subjects that will address your need for in-depth information on companies, industries, products, people, economic conditions and the current job market.

The following are three databases that can assist you in your career explorations and job search.

New Jersey Next Stop:
Insight into New Jersey’s industries, jobs and cutting edge career paths.

NJ Career Assistance Navigator (NJCAN):
Occupational, post-secondary school and financial aid information. Contains the latest national, New Jersey and local market data and projections.
To access NJCAN use the following:
USERNAME: SCC1
PASSWORD: CAREER
Once you’re signed on you must create a personal user name and password.

O*Net Resource Center:
An excellent resource for occupational information.

Additional career resources can be found in the “Reference “ section of the libraries website.

The following are databases frequently used by the Pillar College Student population for general research:

Academic Search Premier – accesses 4,600 publications across broad subject areas.

ATLA Religious Index - For Religion, Biblical Studies, Psychology/Christian Counseling related publications.

EBSCOhost Web, E-books - full text of over 80,000 books (not textbooks) on a wide variety of subjects. Includes table of content, e-mail capability, you can bookmark and annotate, search within the book, cite and add to a folder for future reference.
