The Holistic Kids podcast, cohosted by four teen and tween brothers, Abdullah, Zain, Emaad, and Qasim Ansari, has been around since 2020. Now, writing in partnership with their mom, Dr. Madiha Saeed, they offer this almost 300-page tome that encompasses their nutrition and lifestyle advice. The family advocates for a natural diet (no additives, no dyes, no toxins, no sodas or soft drinks, and especially no white sugar) and recommends commonsense best medical practices: get plenty of sleep, manage stress, spend time outdoors, forge real-time, real-life connections and relationships, limit screen time, and practice attitudes of gratitude and mindfulness. Information is presented in straightforward, accessible prose featuring we pronouns; somewhat lengthy chapters are set off by subheadings and subsections and include user-friendly graphics (diagrams, flowcharts, lists, etc.). Helpful appendices include shopping lists, meal planners, suggestions for healthy substitutes for sweet, calorie-laden dishes, and recipes. There are also substantial lists of physical, mental, and emotional health resources and chapter notes. T his will be equally useful for report writers and young people looking for straightforward guidance.
