This tip-filled, upbeat manual offers step-by-step directions for making 26 sewing projects sure to appeal to tweens and includes clothing, accessories, banners, pillows, and cell phone and tablet cases. There's lots of advice on choosing an appropriate sewing machine, fabric, and thread, and a tutorial on how to take measurements. Each undertaking includes a list of required materials and equipment, along with directions for cutting (patterns included), sewing, and adding finishing touches (the QR codes for video tutorials were not available at the time of this review). Diagrams and large, full-color photos of a young model showing off the finished creations provide visual support. Beginners will need considerable guidance; kids familiar with basic sewing techniques (gathering, clipping) and terms (bias, piping, batting) should be able to proceed independently. Additional support and ideas for more ambitious projects are available through the author's blog and Instagram account (@mademoiselletika). There aren't many resources for kids wishing to sew, so school and public libraries should consider adding this to collections for serious makers.
