About the Library

Library cards are FREE. They may be used at all participating Hidalgo County Public Libraries; therefore, you only need one card!

The following is a list of current participating locations: Donna Public Library, Dr. Hector P. Garcia, Memorial Library (Mercedes), Edinburg Public Library, Elsa Public Library, Hidalgo Public Library, La Joya Public Library, Mayor Joe V. Sanchez Public Library (Weslaco), McAllen Public Library, Pharr Memorial Library, San Juan Public Library, Sergeant Fernando de la Rosa Memorial Library (Alamo), Speer Memorial Library (Mission).

Library cards are issued to patrons who provide a valid driver's license or a valid picture ID card, and a bill to show proof of residence. Children under 18 must have their parent or guardian sign for them.

PLEASE REPORT STOLEN OR LOST CARDS!!!  You are responsible for items checked out on your card.  There is a charge of $2.00 for replacement.
The Peñitas Public Library offers books, DVDs, and computers for public use.

 

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The Peñitas Public Library serves individuals and groups in the community and surrounding areas by providing library (book, pamphlet, periodical, and audiovisual) material, services, programs, facilities, and staff to meet each individual's or group's educational, informational, recreational, and cultural maintenance needs by:

a. Facilitating informal self-education for all people in the community.
b. Enhancing and further developing subjects in which individuals are undertaking formal education.
c. Encouraging wholesome recreation and constructive use of leisure time.
d. Supporting educational, civic, and cultural activities of groups and organizations.
e. Providing trained personnel to assist patrons in their research and/or informational needs.
f.  Expanding resources of the existing collection by providing lateral borrowing (InterLibrary) from other member libraries in the County and State System thus offering the Public a more varied selection of materials.
g. Resources for children and teens ages 18 and under and their families, including our Digital Learning Portal, Cloud Library, eReading tablets, storytimes, and other fun-filled events.
h. Offering collections to meet the needs of special groups such as the Vision or Hearing Impaired, Physically Handicapped, and the Spanish Language Preference Individual.
