The One Book One Putnam Committe in partnership with the Putnam County Library System invites you to join us as we bring the county together with a great book. This year the committe has selected the classic detective novel "The Maltese Falcon" by Dashiell Hammett.  As usual, the reading season will be filled with book discussions, movies, and more!

Find the Falcon

It's a countywide Birdhunt - The Falcon is on the loose!

A tale of murder, mayhem and the search for a priceless statue; The Maltese Falcon, aka the “Black Bird”.  As part of this year’s activities you can play the role of a private investigator and locate the “Black Birds” in Putnam County. Beginning on January 9, 2025 twenty photo images of the “Black Bird” will be placed in various locations throughout Putnam County. These images will be in both public and commercial locations, but will be easily visible, if you look. To play you must take a “selfie” with the image in its posted location.  Instructions: 

• Do not move the image.
• Save your photos in an album on your device.
• Between February 19 and 26 email your entry to onebookoneputnamfindthefalcon@gmail.com. No entries will be considered before or after these dates. You entry must include your name and a contact number.
• Cash prizes of $100/$50/$25 will be awarded at the Maltese Falcon Finale event, Date TBD.
• In case of ties, winners will be selected by a drawing held at the event.
• Location clues will be provided on the Putnam County Library website, the Palatka Daily News, WHIF, WPLK, and WIYD on Tuesdays beginning January14, 2025 and ending February 19, 2025.

The clues so far:

1. Surrounded by books, including others by this year's author, all around the county.

2. You would not want to pay the tangible property tax if you found the original bird, but you could at all of these offices.

3. I can't help thinking that I saw it in the funny papers.
