The Natchitoches Parish Library requires applicants to complete an online job application and pre-employment testing through Criteria. When you click on the link below, you will be directed to the Criteria site where you will be asked to provide basic information to begin the application process.

As part of the pre-employment assessment, you will be required to complete a Skills Test, Personality Assessment, and Computer Literacy and Internet Knowledge Test. We use these assessments to give our candidates the opportunity to demonstrate their unique strengths and characteristics, which are relevant to the role, in an objective and unbiased way.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong verbal, written, and telephone skills.

Requirements

Physical:

  • Prolonged sitting and/or standing ;
  • Extensive use of computers;
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 35 pounds and moving up to 50 pounds
  • Bending, crouching, reaching overhead, grasping objects;
  • Using telephones, including a cell phone;
  • Speaking before groups;

Mental:

  • The position requires attention to details and deadlines, which may cause stress;
  • Ability to multi-task;
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and difficult interpersonal encounters;

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Prior work experience in a library or educational setting and experience working with children is preferred (or a combination of education and work experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired);

 

Compensation

The hiring salary is $23,920 yearly for  Full-time LTA I. The benefits package includes 100% of employee group health insurance premiums paid by the Library for the individual. Participation in the Louisiana Parochial Employees Retirement System. Vacation and paid holidays are available annually, plus 12 sick days per year. 

The hiring hourly rate for Part-time LTA I is $11.50.

 

A satisfactory criminal background check and drug test are conditions of employment.


 

As an absolute condition of employment, all applicants shall agree to a clerical examination and panel interview. If selected for employment, all information listed on the application and/or resume is subject to verification. A Chauffeur’s License where applicable, shall be obtained. References shall be confirmed as part of the interview process.

To ensure that individuals who join the Library are well qualified and to ensure that the Library maintains a safe and productive work environment, it is our policy to conduct pre-employment background checks on all applicants who accept an offer of employment. Background checks may include verification of any information on the applicant’s résumé’ or application form.

All offers of employment are conditioned on receipt of a background check report that is acceptable to the Library Board of Control. All background checks are conducted in conformity with the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and state and federal privacy and anti-discrimination laws. Reports are kept confidential and are only viewed by individuals involved in the hiring process.

If the information obtained in a background check would lead the Library to deny employment, a copy of the report shall be provided to the applicant, and the applicant shall have the opportunity to dispute the report’s accuracy. Background checks may include a criminal record check, although a criminal conviction does not automatically bar an applicant from employment.

Additional checks such as a physical examination, agility test, drug test, driving record, or credit report may be made on applicants for particular job categories if appropriate and job-related.

Employees are required upon hire to sign a drug-free workplace agreement and an agreement not to use tobacco products of any kind while on the job. Individuals must be physically capable of operating library vehicles safely, possess a valid driver’s license, and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for library business will be prohibited if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Currently consisting of a Main Library in the heart of downtown historic Natchitoches, one branch in the Northeast part of the Parish, and two mobile branches, the Natchitoches Parish Library serves a population of approximately 37,000 people. The library has ~29 staff members who strive to best serve the community by offering relevant services and programs and maintaining a collection of nearly 177,000 items with an annual circulation of 112,706. The library system is funded by a ten-year 8 mill property tax that generates an estimated $2.9 million annually for the operation and maintenance of the existing system. The tax is up for renewal in 2027. Natchitoches Parish Library is a member of the Green Gold Library System Consortium.
