ADULT SERVICES: The Robert J. Kleberg Public Library maintains a collection of adult [ Best Sellers ], general and reference materials, a ditigal collection, and over 100 periodical titles. The [ Circulation Services ] Department coordinates item borrowing and is ready to help users with all procedures related to checking out and returning books. The library's electronic collection consists of books on CD, an assortment of DVD's movies, including a collection of eAudiobooks, eBooks, and streaming videos that are acessable through the library's online [ Overdrive ] program. For items that are not part of the in-house collection, staff at the [ Reference/Information Services ] Department is ready to assist patrons with ordering books through the library's [ Inter-library Loan ] program. Note: Patrons are advised to search the [ card catalog ] first to make sure that the 'title' being requested is not available. As part of it's electronic services, the library also makes accessable to its patrons FREE [ Public Internet ] and [ Wi-Fi Internet ] services. Wireless [ Web Printing ] is also available for a nominal fee. An [ Adult Computer Lab ] with in-house printing is also available. Featured on the library's website under the "eLearning Resources" menu tab is [ Discovery Texas - TexShare ]. This extensive database contains a wealth of electronic resources and information with full-text articles from journals, newspapers, magazines, and many other sources. One very popular resource available through "Discovery Texas" is [ Learning Express.] This database offer patrons access to current online guides for pratice entrance college exams, high school equivalency tests, civil service exams, vocational jobs and many other professions. Another popular resource availabe under the "eLearning Resource" menu tab is [ Mango Languages.] This language-learning database allows patrons to access, practice, and learn approximately 63 foreign languages on a user-friendly format. The library also makes available for a nominal fee, Notary Public Services by appointment only. JUVENILE and YOUTH SERVICES: The library's [ Children and Youth Services ] Department offers its young patrons an array materials and programs. The public library strives to enrich the lives of children and young adults by meeting their informational, recreational, and cultural needs. Children services are provided by a helpful and caring staff who pay attention to young patrons and support their creativity. The library promotes access to recreational and reference materials and provides free [ Children's Internet Access ] and a [ Children's Computer Lab ] that features a welcoming area. Our children's computers have many great games that kids and teens can play and enjoy. The [ Hot Titles ] page features many new kids and teen books that have been recently added to the children and young adult collections. The "Teen" collection has recently been spruced-up and expanded. Come by and visit with our Children's Librarian and inquire on the latest additions of children and teen books. If you enjoy being read to, check out the [ Playaway Audiobooks ], collection. For those tech savy, the library also has a collection of Children and Teen eAudiobooks, eBooks, and streaming videos that are available through the library's [ Overdrive ] program.
PATRONS with DISABLILITIES: There is a handicap entrance and exit ramp on the east-side of the library located in the Courtyard area. Handicap toilet facilities are also available. In conjunction with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, the Robert J. Kleberg Public Library makes available the [ Texas Talking Book Program ] a service to Texans who are unable to read standard print material due to visual, physical, or reading disablilities - whether permanent or temporary - is available for free. The program lends books and magazines in digital cartridge, recorded cassettes, large print and Braille books. Thousands of titles are available in a wide variety of catergories, including classics, romances, science fiction, mysteries, westerns, children's selections, plus a special collection of books by Texas authors, books about Texas, and books in Spanish. The collection now includes over 80,000 titles and has reading materials for all ages from beginning readers to older adults. More than 70 different magazines such as Guideposts, Newsweek, Reader's Digest, and Texas Monthly are also available. Eligible Texas residents can register for this free service.
The Robert J. Kleberg Public Library welcomes visitors from outside Kleberg County Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For a nonimal fee, the library makes available several non-resident membership plans for frequent visitors who have personal research needs. Patrons who live outside Kleberg County are charged an annual non-resident fee of $8.00 per person. Non-Resident Family Cards are available for $30.00 annually for a qualifying family of four (4), and cards are issued individually to each family member. Families with five (5) or more members are charged the base fee of $30.00 for first four cards, $5.00 per additional card thereafter. The Library offers visitors on-shelf collections for browsing, reading, and for a nominal fee, photocopying services. Vistors are welcome to visit the library and browse the collections during regular business hours. Free [ Wi-Fi Internet Access] is available to all visitors that have their own personal Wi-Fi ready device.
